Crossing the Border

I'm moving to USA for a while and want to take my scooter with me. Anyone knows how to get it across without all the red tape? Also I'm told it'll be about $1200 to transport it to California... anyone know a cheaper rate & where.
Thanks scootlings.

I love the term scootlings!
Wow, 1200$! Expensive.. Is that for shipping it + the paperwork for customs?
Here is a reply to someone asking a similar question:

Check this out.. Customs for scooters... Read under USA

Sounds like this person found the process quite simple and relatively cheap?!

Unless you've already done it, look into trucking companies that frequently go to the US. They often have some dead space they could put your scooter in and it might be quite a bit cheaper.
